Why visiting a mobility bathroom showroom could be the most important step you take

Choosing a walk-in bath, walk-in shower, or wet room is a big decision. It’s not just about picking a style or a colour, it’s about finding something that will genuinely make daily life safer and more comfortable for you or someone you care about. And yet, many people make that decision based entirely on photographs and descriptions online, without ever stepping inside a bath or trying a shower seat for themselves.

That’s understandable. Visiting a showroom takes effort, and it can feel unnecessary when so much information is available at the click of a button. But when it comes to accessible bathrooms, what you can see on a screen and what you actually experience in person are two very different things. The height of a door threshold, the depth of a bath, the reach of a grab rail… these are things you need to feel, not just read about.

Our showroom near Tamworth in Staffordshire is the largest mobility bathroom showroom in the UK, and it’s open for appointments seven days a week. Whether you’re exploring your options for the first time or you’ve already done your research and want to try things out before committing, a visit could save you from a costly mistake and give you real confidence in your choice.

Why can’t you just choose a walk-in bath from a brochure or website?

There’s a reason we wouldn’t buy a sofa without sitting on it, or a car without taking it for a test drive. Comfort and ease of use are impossible to judge from a photograph. The same is true for accessible bathrooms, perhaps even more so, because the stakes are higher.

A walk-in bath might look compact and manageable in a product image. But when you’re standing in front of it, you’ll quickly notice whether the door opens at an angle that suits you, whether the step-in threshold is genuinely low enough for your mobility, and whether the internal seat is at a height you can comfortably lower yourself onto. These are things that vary from model to model, and from person to person.

The same applies to walk-in showers. A fold-down seat might look perfectly practical in a photo, but will it feel stable when you sit on it? Is the showerhead positioned in a way that works for you? Is the tray large enough to feel safe and spacious? You simply cannot answer those questions without being there.

What can you actually try out at the Life Quality Bathing showroom?

Our showroom has the largest range of walk-in baths on display anywhere in the UK. That means you’re not looking at one or two examples… you’re walking through a space that features multiple working displays, including walk-in baths in a variety of sizes, shapes, and configurations. Some models are compact, designed for smaller bathrooms. Others are full-length. Some include spa jets and therapeutic features. You can compare them side by side and get a genuine sense of which suits you.

Alongside the baths, we have walk-in shower enclosures and level-floor access wet rooms on display, so you can see how each type of solution actually looks and feels in a real space. You can step in, test the height of grab rails, sit on fold-down seats, and walk across wet room flooring to get a sense of the surface underfoot.

We also have wall boards, flooring options, and bathroom furniture on show, so if you’re thinking about a complete bathroom transformation rather than just one product, you can see how different finishes and materials come together. Seeing the full picture in a real setting is far more useful than trying to visualise it from swatches and samples.

How does talking to an expert in person differ from reading advice online?

Online information is helpful, but it’s generic by nature. It can’t account for the layout of your particular bathroom, your specific mobility needs, or the fact that you might have one concern and your partner has a completely different one. A showroom visit gives you access to a real conversation with someone who has spent years helping people in exactly your situation.

Our team has over 40 years of combined experience in accessible bathroom design and installation. When you visit, they’re not there to sell you something. They’re there to listen, ask the right questions, and help you work out what will genuinely improve your day-to-day life. That might mean steering you away from something you thought you wanted, or pointing out a solution you hadn’t considered.

You’ll also be able to ask questions that feel too specific or too small to type into a search engine. What happens if I need to get out of the bath in a hurry? What if I have a carer helping me? Will this seat take my weight? Those are the conversations that happen naturally in a showroom, and they often make the difference between a good decision and a great one.

Is it worth travelling to visit a mobility bathroom showroom near Tamworth?

Our showroom is based in Seckington, just outside Tamworth in Staffordshire, and is conveniently located just off the M42. For many visitors, it’s within straightforward driving distance, and there is ample parking on site. The showroom is also fully accessible for wheelchair users and those with mobility difficulties, so you don’t need to worry about being able to get around comfortably once you’re there.

If you’d prefer to come by train, the nearest stations are Tamworth and Polesworth. Let us know in advance and we’re happy to collect you from either station, so you don’t have to worry about taxis or onward travel.
We’d also encourage you to bring someone with you. Whether that’s a family member, a partner, or a carer, having another person there means you can talk things through together and get a second opinion.

Decisions like these are often made jointly, and it’s much easier to have that conversation in person, surrounded by the actual products, than it is over a kitchen table with a brochure.

Visits are recommended to be by appointment, as this will mean a member of the team busy will definitely be available to assist and be focussed solely on you.

What if you’re not able to travel to the showroom?

We understand that getting to a showroom isn’t always possible. Health, transport, distance, or simply not feeling up to it on a given day can all get in the way. That’s why we also offer free home visits across the UK.

A home visit is a different kind of appointment, but it has real advantages of its own. Our adviser will come to your home, see your actual bathroom space, and talk through your needs in familiar surroundings. They can take measurements, talk through what’s possible given your layout, and bring materials and samples for you to look at.

It’s not quite the same as being able to step into a bath and sit in it yourself, but it does mean that nobody is left without support simply because they can’t make the trip. If you’re unsure whether to visit in person or request a home visit, give us a call and we’ll help you decide which is the better fit for your circumstances.

What should you bring to make the most of your showroom appointment?

You don’t need to prepare anything elaborate, but a few things will help you get more from your visit:

  • Rough measurements of your current bathroom, including the width, length, and the position of the door. This helps our team advise on what will actually fit.
  • A note of any specific mobility considerations: for example, whether you have difficulty bending, use a walking frame or wheelchair, or need space for a carer to assist.
  • Any questions you’ve been meaning to ask. There are no silly questions in a mobility bathroom showroom, the more specific you can be, the more useful the conversation will be.
  • Comfortable clothing. If you plan to step into any of the displays, you’ll want to be able to move freely.

Frequently asked questions

Absolutely. Our showroom has been designed with accessibility in mind from the outset. There is step-free access throughout, ample parking close to the entrance, and wide enough spaces to move comfortably with a wheelchair, walking frame, or mobility aid. If you have any specific access requirements, please let us know when you book and we’ll make sure everything is in order before you arrive.

Yes, and we actively encourage it. Many of our visitors come with a son or daughter, a partner, or a carer, and having that person there often makes for a much more productive conversation. It also means everyone involved in the decision gets to see and experience the options first-hand, rather than relying on a second-hand description.

Yes, you can see and experience both in our showroom. A walk-in bath is a conventional bath with a door built into the side, allowing you to step in without having to climb over a high edge. A wet room is a fully level-access bathroom where the floor drains away without any steps, trays, or enclosures in the way. Each suits different needs and spaces, and seeing both in person is the easiest way to understand which might be right for you.

Most appointments last around one hour, though there’s no strict time limit. We want you to take your time, ask every question you have, and leave feeling genuinely informed rather than rushed. If you’re looking at a full bathroom redesign, it may take a little longer, and that’s absolutely fine.

We offer free home visits across the UK for anyone who can’t make it to our showroom in Staffordshire. One of our advisers will come to your home, assess your bathroom space, and talk through the options that would work best for you. While a home visit doesn’t give you the same opportunity to step inside the products, it is a very thorough and personal service that many of our customers prefer. Get in touch on 0800 448 0448 to arrange one.
