How To Clean a Wet Room
Your Questions, Answered by Our In-House Experts:
Everything You Need to Know About Cleaning your Wet Room
Keeping your accessible wet room clean is essential for hygiene, safety, and maintaining a non-slip environment. Regular cleaning prevents the build-up of limescale, mould, and soap scum, which can make surfaces hazardous. Follow these simple steps to keep your wet room fresh, functional, and safe for everyday use.
- Use a squeegee to clear water from the floor and walls after each use, helping to prevent limescale and mould.
- Wipe down grab rails, shower seats, and other accessibility features with a microfiber cloth to keep them dry and free from soap build-up.
- Use a non-abrasive cleaner suitable for non-slip flooring, tiles, or vinyl.
- Scrub grout lines and any textured flooring with a soft brush to remove dirt and soap residue.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry the floor to prevent slippery surfaces.
- Ensure good ventilation by using an extractor fan or leaving the door slightly open after use.
- Use a mild antibacterial spray or a vinegar-water solution on damp-prone areas such as corners, grout, and silicone seals.
- Regularly check for mould around the shower seat and grab rails, as these areas can trap moisture.
- Keep showerheads, taps, and drains free from limescale by soaking them in a vinegar solution every few months.
- Wipe down grab rails, shower seats, and handles with a disinfectant to remove soap residue and bacteria.
- Use a specialist glass cleaner or a vinegar-water mix to keep shower screens clear and streak-free.
- Use a drain cover to catch hair and debris, and clean it out weekly.
- Flush the drain with hot water regularly to prevent blockages caused by soap and grease build-up.
- If needed, use a mild, non-corrosive drain cleaner to keep water flowing smoothly.
- Avoid using wax-based or oily cleaning products, as they can make the floor slippery.
- Use an anti-bacterial floor cleaner designed for non-slip surfaces to maintain hygiene.
- Regularly check for signs of wear or damage to flooring and replace or repair as needed.
By following these steps, you can ensure your accessible wet room remains clean, safe, and easy to use. Regular maintenance not only extends the life of your fixtures but also provides a comfortable and hygienic environment for independent or assisted bathing.
